New donator perk: Trails!
« on: July 16, 2012, 10:14:26 pm »
So I spent some time making a neat donator perk for the non-turbo-competitive servers the servers where it wouldn't have a huge impact on gameplay).

It looks a little something like this:

Right now it's available on deathrun, jump, trade, and dodgeball. It's still a little in the early stages where some trails are obnoxiously annoying, so I'll be tweaking it a little going forward.

To use it, simply use the !trail command in chat.

just don't make the same mistake that Sass had with thier trails:

at the end of the day you couldn't see through them.

make them transparent enough to see through yet visible enough to see the graphics used and this non-donor won't mind this addition

Help. I don't know where this belongs.

It's a little different from gmod. We don't get complete control over the trails and how visible they are, we can only attach what tf2 provides.

Inb4 donators start scamming fake unusual hats using this mod. lol
Also I noticed that the "Weapon" trails don't work for the Heavy, Demo, Spy, Sniper and the medic, was this intended?

Random/Unrelated: The Frying pan for the heavy is a bit overpowered on zombie fortress. Would it possible to turn the trade server to like 24/7 hugbox, and add another server with random mods and we can just goof around, micspam, roleplay and do whatever? Thats basically what anyone does on the trade server anyway.

I'm just posting these random thoughts here since you'll most likely have your attention on this thread.

I made a small change where the trail will be hidden from the player wearing it in first person. That should help any visibility issues when using trails attached to your head when in first person mode.

Some player models don't have the "weapon" attachment point. Not much I can do about that, it's just how valve made the models.

24/7 hugbox would probably kill the server, since people actually try to kill each other on the server for some reason.

As for a "goof around" server, we'll see. I don't like the idea of adding a server like that cause I feel like it would be a waste of resources. (ie: Why add that server when we can run something like randomizer hell?)

Trails are pretty neat, and if you decide to male Randomizer Hell, I'll love you more than I already do lol.

I always loved trails, I have the Konata trail on the sassilization servers.
I place $20 into a box. So do you. There is now $40 in the box. I sell the box to you for $30. We both walk away with a $10 profit.

Holy shit I just realized how awesome randomizer hell would be.

I've went through and updated this plugin with some fancy new trails. Additionally, I've added it to the prophunt server for the hunting team.

Regarding the trail that distorts your entire screen when you look at the player who has it equipped: WHY?

I've been told it's admin only but still - who thought that was a good idea?
