By the way, how does teamswitching affect you? This is another person staying on the team they prefer the best they can, whether it be red or blue. It has not effect on where you hide, your prop, or your preferred hunting class.
As eski said, it changes the demographic because they are playing at what they are best at.  If a user constantly team switches to blue, and they are good hunters, it gets very annoying real fast.  I'm better at hunting, and would rather hunt all the time, but I tend to stay on red because it's fair to everyone else who has to switch over to red.  Only one, maybe two, people get the chance to switch at a time.  And, as said with the "best at", it has a huge affect on where I hide.  If the team originally had little to nobody on it, and, say, you decided to switch, now I have to completely rethink my hiding strategy and completely change how I react.

It's also unfair from a stats point of view.

And I had no idea the whole spectate thing was there, but I'm sure voidy can easily fix that.

PropHunt Hell / Changing how we join teams
« on: March 30, 2014, 01:56:25 pm »
I've been thinking, and I would like to make a suggestion about the motd.  I feel like we need to change how we join teams to be the same way that SourceOP handles joining teams.  This way is that our team that we join is random, and we can't do anything about it.  I feel like this will help competition in ph hell, and will help with a lot of other things too.

Pros:
-If team stack, it happens by chance.  So, there will be less team stack.
-It helps prevent ghosting, because players can't choose which team
-It prevents the goddamn annoying team switchers
-It changes up who is on what team, ie, you won't always have it where two players are always on the same team, or different teams.

Con:
-You can't correct auto"balance"

Feel free to add more to this discussion, but I personally think it's a good idea.

I think that would be a pretty significant change away from the behavior most prophunt players would expect.
a significant, but well wanted change.  It is one of the most frustrating things ever to deal 90+% of the damage to someone, and they end up firing and killing themselves, giving you absolutely no credit.

why did it even get changed?
Probably the same answer to the question: why did they try to add ghostmode to ph?

I just now noticed the update for desolation, and am not happy about it.  I find that the older version is faaaaar better than the newer version.  (Same goes for the older version of farm xD).  Ive played the newer version of desolation on gm before, and absolutely hated it.  Sure, there are more spots to hide, but more spots doesn't necessarily mean better (i.e. FARM).

Off topic:

How about we just make it to where whenever someone is dead, their screen goes black and they can't talk over mic or in chat? This way we NEVER have to ever worry about ghosting. :D
sadly, I would much prefer this to the ghosts..... I'm not kidding, i hate the ghosts for this mode that much.

All actions of a ghost are only visible to other ghosts, including sprays.
yes, visible.... but he wasn't talking about vision, he was talking about sound.  Not exactly the same thing.

my two cents:

Even if certain bugs are fixed (i.e. teleporting to props, the always on ghostmode thing) it still is a mess to have it on this type of gamemode.  It adds an extra possible dimension to ghosting.  I understand that mostly "new players" ghost, but it will help make ghosting more prevalent, especially since ghostmode is automatically on when you enter for the first time.  Ever think of certain ghosts "crowding" a prop?  That makes for another dead giveaway for a blu ghost.

Plus.... i don't like seeing all the ghosts running around the map while I'm dead, ruins my hiding immersion.

You mean, shorten it from 24h to an hour or so?
yes

I understand the use of trial donation, but 24 hours is way too much for the amount of trollage that ensues. At least shorten it to maybe an hour or something. xD

Yes, any weapon change suggestions can go in that thread. I'm just going to go ahead and merge this thread with it. :)
thanks luve! :D

now then, since there is obviously some discussion, ill just make a couple of points here:

1.)I read somewhere about the whole cp camping deal.  I don't think i noticed anybody mention anything about the range.  The difference between pyro cp campers and heavy cp campers is the fact that the heavy's minigun can reach greater distances than the pyro's flamethrower.  When someone is found, it is essentially a death sentence to get anywhere near the minigun's range.  It is hard to even to get to the health packs scattered around when there is a heavy on you.  Whereas the pyro's flamethrower is easier to avoid.  Yes, multiple flamethrows at once will kill you, or even running into one will, but you can still avoid it.  Heavy, that's almost impossible.  It gets even worse when someone makes a dispenser next to cp.  The dispenser allows the heavy to continuously spam the minigun, without much penalty.  Which, in the context of what i said earlier, is extremely cheap. Also: the heavy might take a good amount of damage for using their minigun, but if they are cp camping: there is a good chance the prop that is coming to the cp is already low on health, and thus only takes a couple of shots to kill.  Any somewhat decent heavy should be able to make that kill easily, without much worry of dying from the minigun.

2.)Granted, if the heavy is actually trying to find props, they have to be somewhat good at prophunt to not let themselves die.  However, once someone knows spots: the heavy tends to become completely broken.  The instant they are on you, it takes just a couple of shots, and you're dead. Absolutely nothing can be done about it.  If you manage to run from the spot you were in, the minigun still has the range to kill you from afar.
Edited: and these quick kills have absolutely nothing towards actual weapon skill.

3.) This suggestion is more of a group pleaser than anything.  Someone came onto the server today, and most all of us regulars were ranting and raving about how much we hate people who use the minigun.  The next thing that pissed us off?  The guy who was doing it kept going because he knew it was pissing us off, and he enjoyed making us mad (he actually said this himself).  If the minigun gets taken away, there will be a ton of happy prophunt regulars.

This has been discussed within this thread many times. Reasons as to why it likely won't be removed are in there.
Thanks for the link! ^_^ I'm currently reading it through.

btw: this post mostly came about because everyone of the regulars (including me) were getting really mad at someone for using the heavy and his minigun... and he kept doing it to troll us, since we were all mad.  I was just finally tired of it. D:

edit: should i possibly make some suggestions on that thread?
