dont think there will even be dedicated servers for this mode, since only 6 people can play.

Given that MvM will really only be 6 players vs bots, is it worth running a server specifically for it? 6 slots doesn't seem like it would be enough for our community, and we don't have the resources to setup more than one server. Additionally, it seems like most people would be joining MvM games through the lobby system.

i like how it's represented in the canon as not just a battle for mann co, but as a battle for keeping thier jobs.

and that the robots are powered by cash.
blow the bots up, recieve lods o emone!

Yeah, not to mention it would be broken the first couple weeks because 6 donators would use their reserved slots to get in and no one else would have access.

Six players eh? Well forget about it. Unless they're doing something like allowing 20 people in the server and every 6 people takes turns (which I doubt) theres no real point in making a dedicated server for this.

So will there even be a randomizer hell? Or whats the story with that?

If Kong King Hell goes the way of Stock Hell (always being empty), then I'll most likely place a Randomizer Hell in it's place. Right now though, KKH still gets some players, so nothing is changing just yet.

Dude, make an event for stock hell on steam. Bitches love events.
I think its just that most people arent aware that there IS a stock hell event. Get one of your floozies to host it.

Events aren't the solution. They annoy members of the group and they only keep the server populated for a few hours. We've tried it before.

I'd say you should give it one last chance. Besides Saxton Hell events are so rare, they don't even annoy me. Its those groups that just spam events every day that are annoying.

Give it one event, if it doesn't shape up in the next week, replace it.

incoming thread re-railing.

Day 2: http://www.teamfortress.com/mvm/mercs/ (http://www.teamfortress.com/mvm/mercs/)

since Mann vs Machine also introduces a new canteen action item meant for the new mode, a weapon upgrade system (http://media.steampowered.com/apps/tf2/tobor/upgrade_ui.jpg) clearly based off how valve assigns stats to weapons and also has upgrades for the classes themselves, what do you think of the mode so far?

one canteen effect seems to be built with engies in mind, providing instant upgrades, another seems like it'd easily allow an upgraded medic to replicate the effects of a VSH/FF2 medigun's ubercharge, as it gives crits. and speaking of upgrades, lets be honest, i bet we all saw one kind of upgrade coming for the spies sapper, and one engie upgrade gives him a second sentry.

hoped-for upgrades:
weapon specific stats could be tweaked,
-huo long heater's ammo consumption
-black box's on-hit healing (though if torchlight is any indicator, this might not happen, self healing on hit usually leads to OPness in excessive amounts of healing, but we do have on-kill healing)
-Gunboats could be upgraded to entirely reduce self-damage from rocket jumps
-Mantreads could prevent more knockback
-vita saw could be upgraded to store more uber for next life
-ubersaw could get... actually, there's the weapon speed upgrades for that.
-classes could boost their own max HP and Speed through upgrades, not to mention add a small amount of self-healing
also discuss the special robots and giants.

i can see the scout giant being a high priority "kill as fast as possible to avoid losing" target. heck, the page on the robots even says so.
and uber medic. also probably going to be annoying as heck... though i'll pity the engie for having a robot built specifically to kill his sentries. thank god there is a delay before it does once it gets there.
soldier giant begs to have touhou music playing when he comes into play.
and Bowman? more like Lucksman!... well, unless these guys can aim.

Also about the MvM, i hope the bots aren't crazy about their aimbots :P

i'll give you this much from when i played HM_OPchallenge: pyro bots will annoy the fuck out of soldiers and anybody with a projectile weapon that can be reflected, keep a hitscan weapon or stay on the move when firing at them. other high priority targets are snipers (ended too many a game for me on that custom map) and spies. also medics and engies for reasons we already know, unless building isn't in thier logic this time around.

Edit: Clarity.
Edit 2: redundancy and linking to something that already proves a few points. DX

How is the update? I hear all the servers are filled up, the gamemode is bugged and all sorts of shit.

Plus steam is being shit now since so many people are still downloading that 900mb update, it was so slow for me yesterday.
And its too early to find any sort of gameplay videos :/

I heard that all you need is 4 engies, a spy (To sap bombers and giant demos and shit), and a scout (Dosh collecting, sandman marking etc) and you'll get an insta-win.

Assuming you'll even get to play.

Also fully upgraded beggar's bazooka shooting 12 crockets at once with that canteen thingy.

Demoknight apparently also works well, and it's only aided by the fact most demo melee weapons apparently can be upgraded.
just don't go full demoknight until you are upgraded sufficiently for taking a beating and delivering said beating.

Also apparently soda popper/mad milk/sandman scout with bullet penetration and other shit is like godly. I've heard stories of scouts gaining 1k hp from grabbing cash and just slowing everyone's shit down with mad milk.

And unless you have good aim for constant headshots and explosive heads, the sydney sleeper/jarate combo works best, especially against giants.

Anyways, I gathered some tips from a thread on /v/ (4chan) and I want to know you guy's opinion on these. (Since I can't fucking play because mouse shitted on me)

Code: [Select]
>Scout
SodaPopper is the way to go.
Mad milk and Sandmann.
Collect cash to get 600+hp
Increase clip size
Get piercing bullets
Get Mark to death baseball and slowing milk
Tank get down easily with critz canteen and maxed sodapopper. Enjoy those 380damage rapid fire instant reloading 6 shells.

>Soldier
Beggar's Bazooka with +clip size, buff banner, enuff said

>Pyro
Oh god that airblast!
Don't use secondary weapons, it's all in your flamethrower.

>Demoman
Scottish Resistance is awesome. The detonation delay isn't a problem in MvM, but you get to put 14 crits sticky traps, and detonate independently at will.
Other ways to play it : Maxed Eyelander with chargin targe.

>Heavy
Not much to say, max that minigun!

>Engy
Two ways Teleporter is priority, allows last second saves and escaping sentry busters
max your melee speed, gotta wrench that sentry! Get dispenser radius up for all to benefit.
If a sentry buster runs up to your shit, wait until it starts ticking, then pick up your sentry, otherwise if they're swarming you, pick it up and let your teammates deal with them.

>Medic
Kritzkried, and ubercharge canteen to share with your healing target.
Don't melee the tank with ubersaw, you'd rather charge up your kritz.
With demoman, lay critz traps before round starts, your charge rate is 10 times faster.

>Sniper
Yes there's a way to be usefull as sniper.
Sidney sleeper and jarate.
Make jarate slow. Hit giants with piss gun, they fall very quickly, allowing your mates to get more time to shoot at the tank on which you make little damage. It's a very supportive role.
Headshot explosion upgrade make ennemies bleed with sidney sleeper. (so no headshot crit)

>Spy
Max out the sapper.
Get armor piercing knife.
Sap groups of robots, sap sentry busters
Backstab giants.
Also a very supportive role, you don't deal much damage, but that sapping power is golden.

Sniper with Machina and jarate is what works best for me so far.  Upgrade dmg, explosive headshots, and charge speed.  The only 2 things you have trouble with headshots is the medic and scout bots but they can both be killed with barely charged bodyshots.  But the nade bots line up perfectly and you can completely own them with easy headshots, same with all the bigger bots.  One round I took out all the medics with half charged bodyshots and multikills, took 90% of all the health from the bigger bots and got a ton of dmg on the tank by myself and my team only had to kill the scoutbots and help with the tank.  By far the easiest last round I've had so far.

All the other classes I haven't been too effective with though, except maybe medic I guess.

Black box soldier can also work: start by upgrading that reload speed ONCE, and save the remaining cash (should be 150). once you get 500+ start boosting that damage and improve reloading and other shit when you have extra cash leftover from boosting dmg output. as a side note, only use gunboats if you intend to use RJing to increase mobility (in which case invest in some HP regen and kills heal), otherwise you're better off using a shotgun/reserve shooter(if you can use it) or the rightous bison. not sure on the mantreads though.

also as scout, don't bother with bullet resistance, you have instant respawn and gain health from cash. don't use the baby face if you are upgrading speed: the speed upgrades and the baby face don't stack, making it more worthwhile to use the scattergun at least.

and with spy, don't use YER unless you can get a backstab before they notice your existence (and they are quick to pick up!). i saw a poor hapless spy player get crushed by robo-soldiers because he didn't have a disguise. however, that same spy decided to do suicide runs for a little bit, sapping the fuck out of a few bots before dying again (and giving up on spy, i think he went scout)

as a general rule of thumb, there's a reason the kritz canteen is the most expensive canteen: the offensive boost it grants can wreck shit when used properly. see a tank? Kritz boost. see a big bot (noted by red background for icon in the wave)? Kritz boost. same goes with medics: kritzkrieg has found it's full potential, but keep an uber canteen to buy more time for yourself if you're alone with a full charge

finally the whole "dat airblast" part of pyros is VERY handy, boost the airblast so that if bots get too close to the base you can buy the team more time with airblast. i've seen it happen and it works wonders.

Edit: i meant to put down reload speed

as a side note, MvM can easily overwhelm 3 players, 4 is okay, 5 is getting there, 6 = you should be able to win.

that said, most of my MvM losses are due to having either 3 players, stupid mistakes. or getting overwhelmed with enemy firepower.

came across a person earlier today i had to laugh at.

in a nutshell, complaining about scouts hogging the cash when it's equally divided amongst players.

think on it for a bit based on what scouts get in terms of buffs in MVM

Now that shit calmed down and (most of) the annoying glitches are patched up, what do you guys think of MvM?

I love it, although I haven't tried Mann Up mode yet. I'd rather have a team full of people I know and are skilled, surplus vouchers/tickets, and actually have time outside of school to play.

Also waiting on more pyroland shit and doomsday/MvM maps.

w-w-when will s-strange rainblowers go up in price? ;_;

i saw a MvM server with cusom maps once. too bad the maps never loaded, which is a shame: MvM has too few maps and no maps with a legit "no hope, might as well kill as many robots as we can before the waves overwhelm us" survival map/mode of MvM, without custom maps/wave-sets.

also MvM sadly went the way of Special Delivery: everyone played it, and then most people stopped doing so, which is also a shame because MvM is something i do find myself going back to every now and then. sometimes i do so with random people, others i find a random, empty server and have my buds (not the hat!) come in to kick robot ass with me.

the only things MvM needs now is a survival mode mod, some more special robots, including one of engineer, though he needs to only use a nerfed minisentry/Gunslinger, or spams pomson shots that reduce less uber and cloak than a pomson a player uses, a battle medic with increased HP but does not heal others and doesn't recieve heals himself (a-la equalizer), perhaps even jumper soldiers who use mantreads. also some more "bosses" that warrant the HP bar like the tank, HHH and monoculus. not some giant robot variants like we have now, something like the kind of creativity that makes a FF2 boss tick, and i'm not counting the tank either since it didn't fight back other than by bringing a bomb to the base.

All I'm seeing is valve giving us maps but not giving us maps.  If that makes sense?
Meaning, we're given bits but that's it.

I want more maps that are for MvM or Doomsday type ones.
For all we know, there's custom ones for Doomsday, but who knows.
