Honestly I personally don't have a problem with fanfics/stories as long as it's not over spammed or contains ear rape, but that's just me. I think a good rule of thumb (I say rule of thumb because it's more of a polite thing to do rather than a requirement of the current rules) for all mic spammers who want to play a fanfic/funny story/etc. is that if the audio clip is longer than most of the songs being played by others at the time, that you probably shouldn't start playback without asking the other mic spammers first if you can use the mic for an extended amount of time. As far as the official rules go, stories are a grey area (one of the rules for Trade Hell is that mic spam is for music only, although I believe that this is more aimed at people who spam ear rape). It might be worth noting that I have yet to see an admin step in when someone plays a reading of "Shrek is love" or similar.

EDIT: Fuck this, I can't figure out why my config wont load, I'll just going to send the files to Voidy and see if he can get it working.
OK, I've found a model and some sound bytes from the first movie, throwing together a basic config right now. I'll let you guys know how it goes after I do some testing and debugging on my dev server.

General Discussion / MOTD Crash

There seems to be a glitch with the new Christmas themed MOTD, (I only say this because it started happening after the MOTD was changed). Every now and then after hopping between servers or changing maps, after pressing the SPACE key to move past the MOTD,  it will change to the screen that shows the map type info, then it will freeze up completely and you get the usual "hl2.exe has stopped responding" message. I have heard a few people complain about it now, so I know it's not just me.

I just did some research on the glitch, and I guess that I didn't fully understand what it exactly was when I first saw it. It does seem harmless because it only gives you a later spawn time, and not a second life.

As the title of this thread implies, I had no idea what I was even looking at, so I thought I'd report it. I only placed it in the ban request section as it seemed to be the only place on the forums to report suspicious behavior that I could find. I did try to make contact with the admins to ask about it but they were all offline at the time.

So now that the issue seems to be resolved (unless an admin wishes to make a statement), I think we can safely

oh you caught me doing the spawn glitch!!!! Well Voided can't fix it because it is an Valve Exploit. Also if voidy tries to fix it there will be many more exploits within that :ooo

Well if that's true, then that would explain it. Another one of valve's hidden "features". Either way, I think that there needs to be a rule about abusing such exploits, as this kind of thing creates an unfair advantage to those who know how to use them.

A few players seemed to be able to re-spawn after they died by using !spawn, which I'm assuming they are not supposed to be able to do as no one else seemed to be able to do it and they are not (as far as I know) admins.

Unfortunately the whole thing happened too quickly for me to make a demo of what happened, but I did manage to capture some of it with Fraps.

Note: weirdman201 (STEAM_0:0:43984704) did this several times. Not just the one time in this video. (Someone also said he had done this in the previous map, but I didn't actually see it happen)

Apparently I have a "j" in my username (I had no idea I was misspelling it this whole time as "Calcium"  ). Anyways, I like to be consistent, so would a nice forum admin do me a favor and get rid of that annoying "j"? Thanks.

tldr; I need an admin to remove the "j" from my username.
