PropHunt Hell / Re: Rank Removal
« on: March 17, 2013, 03:05:31 am »
Well if it does get removed honestly ill just go to a ranked server :/

You can choose from VaultF4 which is empty like 20 hours of the day and GM which is empty a lot too and will get you set on fire from across because their dedi sucks and it's in Europe.

I'm not too sure what ranks mean to people anyways. Maybe it's because 40 of my 55 days of prop hunt are on a server that jury-rigged their ranking system (which I still think is better) but it's not hard to tell who is the best after spending 5-10 maps on the server.

On ranks:

SourceOP ranking system is far superior. It's better than nothing and nothing is better than what we've got. If you want a real opinion, ask a specific question please. :)

On the prop menu:

I suppose this is a decent place to post this.

Suggestion:
a) Remove "easy" prop menu props (bucket, CP, pile of hay, paint can, TV, etv. Would be map dependent.)
b)  Don't allow donors to switch to a smaller prop than the one they got. Could be tough to code.
c) Remove stats from the servers.
Only one is necessary. I prefer the third.

Reason:

Taken from: http://forums.saxtonhell.com/index.php?topic=397.0

It's pretty obvious that the prop hunt server is at least semi-competitive. It's hooked up to a leaderboard, there's quite a bit of stat spam, and a good deal of the regulars obviously care about their stats. At one point, the leaderboard was used as justification to make changes/avoid making changes to the config.

I don't really mind it; use it or don't, I'll get you anyway. However, I think it has no place on a server that has historically been against pay-to-win. I know it exists mostly to bring in donations, and if you say as much I'll stop complaining.

Removing rankings won't bring back the old fun people on this server. People are still going to complain, it's just the way the server as gone. It's the internet, don't be so butthurt and just ignore the whiners  :-* :-*

EDITITTIES : 21:15 - [RG] MrEskimoMan: imo, it's not the ranks fault that people are whiny bitches

You never noticed a difference between when you played on here and SOP with me? I didn't rage at everything ever before I started playing on the ranked servers.

Woah, did some huge falling out happen on the server last night??? I wasn't on but was just wondering whether this has been an idea for some time or one that really sparked last night?

I've been talking to anyone who'll listen about this for a long time. I know Luve has been talking with Roar. I don't know why this just got posted now.

I think the issue of rank is more to do with the players themselves. By no means will I name names here but certainly there are a few who engage in things like team-switching to blue each round to get kills, who talk as though they are the very best and everyone else should just bow down before them. Others who like to be at the very forefront of attention all the time etc. I find that while this is augmented by ranks, it's also got a lot to do with the ego of the person in question. Again, removing ranks might go some way to extinguishing this and may even deter the more 'troublesome' players from playing on the server.

Hi there. I exist. You can call me out on it should you feel like it. You'd be wrong, even if I come off that way. Sorry.

However, now I sound as though I support removing ranks only to get rid of people on the server that tend to irritate me a bit - NO NO NO. (I think I speak for many when I talk about irritating people)
Although I think removing rank will be a good thing in returning prophunt to the more laid back and light hearted game that it was before, it is still a nice way of gauging ability for those who do try to play more legitimately the majority of the time.

As a general rule, people who play more will have higher ranks. It's incredibly difficult to net a loss of points unless you're only playing blue and not getting any kills. Ranks aren't the same thing as skill.

Why would you buy keys from valve? Black market is always 50% off.

As for games, I'd second Binding of Isaac, or if you're a fan of RPGs Titan Quest is a good one, I've gotten about 200 hours out of it and haven't finished the game.

I thought that only worked with broken HUD, thx

It fixes almost anything associated with lag. There's a few things it doesn't fix but the only one I can remember off the top of my head is clientside broken doors.

IMO, there is pretty much no reason NOT to make it take points. The delay thing would then be pointless.

Except I don't care if someone loses points or not, while I DO care if I get my kill or not. If someone's gonna explode it's because they know they can't get me, and while it IS one less prop that I have to kill, it's one that I already found and some of the time it's denying me a speed boost. If I have a 5 second window to kill them after I find them or something I'd much prefer that to them losing points.

As an aside, why not just say exploding mid round on red is an offense similar to griefing? I know everyone likes to hate on the SourceOP server but that's how it is over there and they don't seem to have problems with it. That way you don't need to mess with the code and an admin can deal with it should they be on the server. I don't think it happens often enough that an admin would have to be called every time.

It seems as if if someone is using an explode bind, they're doing it to fuck with people. I somehow doubt that someone trying to troll others is going to care about their rank. But what do I know, I almost never play Prophunt.

Most of the time you're right. If someone explodes mid-round they're doing it to prevent getting killed and they usually do it based on the person that saw them (EG, most server regulars have a distinctive unusual hat or hat/misc combo). And to my knowledge most of them don't really care about their rank, but I've only had that problem with one person, and in my mind if ther're going to that much trouble to prevent me from killing them, I've already won.

I'd say this is all well and good but do ranks really matter to everyone? What about those who couldn't care less about ranks?

Also, sometimes people on blue decide to kill themselves with explode for one reason or another because of their own fun they're having with their friends. If this has to be implemented, only have it on red team.

But again, not everyone cares about rank.

This is a good point but people can have reasons to explode on red that don't have to do with caring about ranks. No matter how little I try when I play, I know that my points are going to go up; the -2 from dying on red doesn't matter to me at all. I just don't have any fun (90% of the time) playing red. I'd rather spend the whole time dead (hence why I normally run into blu spawn or explode during setup only) and watch a video on youtube or reddit or something then go back to playing blu.

Also I don't really think box is talking about ranks - he's advocated removing them multiple times despite being rank 1; he, I, and other old regulars have talked a few times about how much more fun the server was before stats were implemented, although I can understand if the administration doesn't want to remove them. I would have a ton more fun playing on the server if I could even opt out, but that raises its own host of problems.

Is the point loss one possible? As far as I knew the points were handled exclusively on GM's end. Also, instead of delaying the exploding bind for 5 seconds why not just block it the same way all the spectator commands are blocked?

Nope, only one of them roams Unova. The other two just sit around waiting for their capture or death.

Sinnoh. There's two runners in Unova I think.

Aside from the red Gyrados from Lake of Rage which only nubs would count as a legit shiny and some hacked shinies, my first and only was a Swablu. Which was on an emulator. Which made me rage so hard since I would never be able to use it in one of my actual games. As far as my physical games go, I've never found one though.

R4 card. :)

Pokemon is fabulous.

Fixed.

My first shiny was a duskull, I think.

Nothing can (easily) be done about that. Valve made miniguns always transmit to all players to solve a bug with spin-up sounds never ending, which makes the heavy transmit to all players.

Well that poses a problem when someone gets mad and instead of leaving the server decides to shoot the ground forever while standing at the beginning of a hard jump. Because that solves things.

Sucks nothing can be done though. I'd suggest removing heavies but I know a few people like to conc as them. :(
